Tech2Empower Louisiana: Collective Action for Equity and Social Justice, September 25 - 27, 2019

Fellowship Host: Citizen SHE

Citizen SHE is a nonprofit organization in Louisiana that is building an aligned base of Black women who inform, advocate for and enact a collective policy agenda to address the needs of Black women across the state. The membership-based organization is weaving a new tapestry of politically activated Black women who will become Louisiana’s advocates, operatives, decision makers, and power brokers. SHE’s work reorganizes Louisiana’s political power structures to recognize Black women as activists, leaders and elected officials who represent a crucial base of power. SHE’s strategy include leadership development, policy creation, collective advocacy, cultivating candidates, training campaigners, mobilizing Black voters and engaging elected officials.

In September 2019, WAKE's Tech2Empower Advisors collaborated with CitizenSHE and its community by working with leaders from local nonprofits focused on social justice issues, and schools and programs serving disadvantaged or underrepresented youth. On this 3-day program from September 25-27, Advisors met with local leaders and students to learn and to provide tech and communications coaching, and for the students, career mentoring.
