Impact Challenge for Women's Rights & Social JusticeMarch 4 - 6, 2020 in San FranciscoDeadline: January 21st, 2020. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis. WAKE invites women's rights and social justice leaders from nonprofit organizations from across the United States and U.S. territories to apply to join us in San Francisco for our Tech2Empower USA: Impact Challenge for Women's Rights and Social Justice for International Women's Day: March 4 - 6, 2020.Tech2Empower will be a powerful learning experience customized and designed to strengthen their work advancing social justice and women's rights. Tech2Empower will connect teams from social justice organizations with advisors from top tech companies to consult on project challenges. Participating organizations will propose projects aimed at advancing their work on issues including immigration rights, LGBTQ+ rights, violence against women and girls, and racial and reproductive justice. The 3-day program and hackathon-style event will convene in San Francisco, March 4 - 6, 2020 for International Women’s Day. Participants will have the opportunity to acquire new tech skills, and benefit from expertise and hands-on work on their project of choice, while also contributing to deeper understanding of their social justice issue area and gaining allies. ◍ How does the program work?During Women's History Month every year, Tech2Empower USA brings together women's rights and social justice activists, representing high-impact nonprofits from diverse communities across the U.S. Through interactive learning and cross-sector collaboration, participating nonprofits and their Tech2Empower Advisors co-design solutions to address their most urgent tech and communications challenges. >>> Learn more about the program and previous editions here. Tech2Empower USA 2020 will be hosted at top tech companies and will include: 1) Targeted technology and communications training + coaching & Sessions with Silicon Valley influencersHosted by tech leaders like Twitter and YouTube, nonprofit participants join interactive sessions with industry experts. Highlights include: Google’s #IAmRemarkable, a powerful workshop that encourages women to overcome gender norms to proudly embrace self promotion; enhancing digital strategy; cultivating an activist community through social media; trust and online safety training for women and marginalized groups; tricks and tools to grow your Twitter network; best practices for launching a YouTube channel; and a deep dive into effectively leveraging Google for Nonprofits. 2) Community buildingWe design our community event as a way to share the incredible work of participating nonprofits with the engaged audience from the tech and finance industries. The “Speed Geek” format facilitates an environment for shared learning between nonprofits leading change in their communities and industry leaders with the talent, tools and resources to help them amplify their progress. The event brings together 100+ individuals from diverse backgrounds, sectors, and geographies to foster bridge-building that leads to communities of support and activism across a spectrum of social justice issues. 3) Specialized project workThe exciting, meaningful finale of Tech2Empower USA is the Impact Challenge. We pair nonprofits with teams of volunteer Advisors for a day of hands-on project collaboration. These powerful teams work on tech projects proposed by the nonprofits as high priority to their organizations. This ensures that, through Tech2Empower USA, the nonprofits benefit from demand-driven support that will enhance their social impact.
