Rwanda, May 25 - June 1, 2019 Tech2Empower Rwanda focus areas: Advancing Girls' Education and Supporting Women Social EntrepreneursFrom May 25-June 1, 2019, WAKE brought together an international delegation of volunteer Advisors from top tech companies for Tech2Empower in Kigali, Rwanda. During our Impact Challenge at Impact Hub, Tech2Empower Advisors worked side by side with teams from local women-led social enterprises providing coaching and working on impact projects. In partnership with the Akilah Institute, we held our Tech and Career Day for Girls, a full-day STEM and leadership development program led by our Tech2Empower Advisors and team. More than 100 young women and girls from Akilah, Agahoza Shalom and FAWE participated. The highly interactive program exposed the girls to fun, innovative and inspiring STEM, tech and leadership topics including:// Google's #IamRemarkable curriculum on the importance of self promotion and celebration of personal achievements.// Mentoring circles on technology careers. // Breakout workshops on introduction to coding, Artificial Intelligence, color science, resume writing, interview skills and setting goals for success.// Practice sessions for storytelling, developing personal branding and crafting an elevator pitch.Impact Challenge: Supporting Women Social EntrepreneursHosted in partnership with Impact Hub Kigali, the Tech2Empower Impact Challenge is a 2-day, project-based collaborative event designed to enhance sustainability and impact of women-led social enterprises and NGOs. Each participant, chosen through a competitive application process, identified a priority "impact project" in tech, communications or admin/finances. We matched participating organizations with teams of volunteer Advisors, and together they collaborated on an impact project and learned from each other. -Meet the Tech2Empower Rwanda AdvisorsIn Rwanda, Advisors collaborated with local partners through hands-on project work, coaching and training in communications, technology and business and finance operations and strategy.They were especially excited to learn from Rwandan partners as they are role models for the world in how to create an environment that fosters women's leadership.
