Get matched with highly-skilled professionals who will partner with you to enhance your organization’s effectiveness and sustainability as you drive social change. WAKE's programs offer support to women-led social impact organizations including social entrepreneurs, nonprofits, NGOs, and educators.
During Tech2Empower, WAKE partners with women-led social impact organizations to provide them with the support they need to scale their initiatives and deepen their community impact. Organizations working in fields such as women’s empowerment, economic development, reproductive freedom, environmental justice, and more, collaborate with skilled professionals who are committed to advancing their missions. The experience is rooted in collaboration, where social enterprises propose a project that addresses a critical need in areas like technology, communications, data management, or administration, and are matched with a team of Advisors equipped to guide them through the process.
WAKE works with organizations that are on the front lines of change, understanding the unique challenges their communities face. The women leading these organizations are the true drivers of transformation, and WAKE provides the additional resources and expertise needed to elevate their efforts. By participating in the Tech2Empower Impact Challenge, social enterprises gain not only valuable skills but also lasting partnerships and connections that support their long-term sustainability and growth.
What organizations gain by participating:
• Pro-bono support on a project of their choice, customized to the organization’s specific needs.
• Personalized guidance from experienced professionals in fields like technology, strategy, communications, and finance.
• Connections with other local organizations that are also driving social change in the community.
• New allies, including Advisors who are invested in success beyond the project.
• Opportunities to strengthen the organization’s capacity in areas like digital strategy, marketing, and data management.

In September 2022,proudly reintroduced international Tech2Empower programs after operating virtually during the pandemic. Kigali, Rwanda, with its vibrant community of social changemakers and our longstanding connections with local partners, was the ideal location for this relaunch. In Kigali, the WAKE team, along with an impressive delegation of 20 volunteer Advisors, worked hand-in-hand with women-led social enterprises uplifting gender equity and championing girls' education and leadership. One year has passed since this on-the-ground work began, and we’re pleased to highlight a team that has made great strides through its Tech2Empower collaboration. Rwanda Women’s Network, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering victims of gender-based violence created lasting impacts for their organization with the help of four volunteer Advisors from top tech companies. We’re excited to shed light on their inspiring partnership.
Organizations are selected based on their:
Project idea: A clear and focused tech, finance, administrative, marketing, or communications project idea and explanation of its envisioned impact on organization's work;
Mission and Impact: Demonstrated focus and commitment to advancing social justice, especially in underserved communities;
Application: A thoughtful application clearly expressing how they will leverage what is learned and accomplished during the program to strengthen the work of their organization;
Commitment: Expressed commitment to allocating relevant and valuable team resources to fully participate in Tech2Empower (both in-person and virtual components).
Organizations eligible to participate must:
Be an established social enterprise/NGO/nonprofit or other type of social impact organization committed to advocating for and advancing relevant social justice initiatives.
Commit at least two team members to participate in all Tech2Empower programming, including both in-person and virtual program components. Additional team members are welcome to join your project team and meetings with Advisors as needed.
Include women-identifying team members in those selected to participate in the program, or be a women-identifying majority team.
The scope of your Tech2Empower project will be determined by multiple factors. The project scope is first workshopped with members of the WAKE team during your initial interview. It is then further refined when working with your team of Advisors during the program, wherein WAKE provides a “discovery session” tool to help teams set project goals and priorities, and establish what is realistic within the timeframe of the program. We request that participating organizations remain open to altering the project scope if needed throughout the course of the program.
Collaboration within Tech2Empower teams is participatory and interactive, guided by WAKE’s values of two-way learning, open communication, and mutual empowerment and respect. We recognize that both social impact leaders and Advisors are experts in their respective fields, and view the program as a unique opportunity for individuals from different sectors to come together to exchange information and ideas. Project scope and direction will always be led by the expressed priorities of nonprofit participants. While WAKE provides tools for scheduling, project discovery, and project planning, each team has autonomy and can diverge from this as needed for the good of their project and goals.
As a small social impact team ourselves, we recognize that organizations have lots of commitments, and are often operating on shoestring timelines and budgets. However, we believe that the Tech2Empower program is a valuable investment into the professional development of your organization and staff, and one that you will be able to continually implement to streamline your work. The final product of the program is also something your organization can continue to benefit from in the future after the conclusion of the program. Thus, we ask that your organization fully commit to the investment of time the program requires in order to fully benefit from this opportunity.
We match teams of Advisors to nonprofit organizations based on the pool of Advisors we have recruited for the program and how relevant their skill sets are to the projects and priorities proposed by each nonprofit. We do our best to match organizations with Advisors who can fulfill the priority project proposal. However, we ask for two project proposals from nonprofits in the event we are not able to match you with Advisors with skill sets relevant for the first project. If we are unable to match you with a team of Advisors for either of your proposed projects, we will defer your participation to a future Tech2Empower program.
Tech2Empower Advisors are women from top companies in various sectors who devote their expertise, time, and resources to promote women’s rights, girls’ education, and social justice. The Advisors provide training, consulting, and hands-on project support through our Tech2Empower programs and also mentor young women and girls in the communities where we work.
Tech2Empower is the name of our umbrella program wherein WAKE engages in coaching, mentoring, and collaborative project work in different capacities. Through Tech2Empower programs, volunteer Advisors provide hands-on project work, feedback, mentoring, and training on technology tools and platforms to advance the mission of social enterprises and promote girls’ involvement in STEM education. During Tech2Empower international programs, the Impact Challenge is a 2-3 day program component wherein social impact leaders are matched with volunteer Advisors for collaborative project work. The Impact Challenge is one programmatic component of Tech2Empower.
Our programming is completely free for selected NGO/social impact participants. Your investment in the program is your time and staff resources.
Both Advisors and social enterprise leaders commit to working together through the established program dates. If a personal relationship is formed and both parties agree, teams are welcomed, but not expected, to work past the dates of the program.
Your donation helps WAKE connect and uplift women and girls worldwide through technology, education, and collaboration. By contributing, you support our efforts to build cross-cultural connections, unite passionate volunteers, and strengthen the global fight for equity and social justice. Together, we can drive meaningful change and create a better future for all.
